Non-BJP parties to confront govt

Last Updated 23 November 2010, 17:09 IST

Top leaders of the CPM, CPI, TDP, JD(S), AIADMK, MDMK, AGP, Forward Bloc, BJD and RLD met here, and described the telecom scam as “the single largest corruption scandal” in Independent India.” They said earlier governments had constituted JPCs for even scams of much smaller dimensions.

The BJP-led Opposition has already maintained that the conduct of  Parliament would not be possible unless the government announced a JPC.

For the eighth consecutive day, Parliament was adjourned for the day without transacting any business with the government and the Opposition unable to break the logjam over the issue of constituting the JPC into the alleged telecom scam, Adarsh housing scandal and corruption in Commonwealth Games. With the government refusing to accede to the demand for a JPC probe, Parliament could not function on Tuesday as the Opposition created pandemonium.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day without transacting any  business with the BJP-led opposition demanding a JPC probe and Congress members raising issues of alleged corruption charges against  Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddurappa. Both Houses were adjourned for the noon and thereafter for the day .

As soon as Lok Sabha proceedings began, members from Opposition parties members trooped in to the well of the House demanding the setting up of the JPC. Countering the opposition lung power, the  Congress members demanded the resignation of Yeddyurappa over corruption charges.  They also shouted slogans against the Reddy brothers.
