South police recover booty worth ` 3.5 lakh

A team led by Sub-Inspectors P Jagadish and Santosh Kashyap were patrolling near Bharathnagar here on Wednesday when they noticed three persons moving around in a suspicious manner. Soon after the jeep stopped, the trio took to heels only to be intercepted by cops after a chase. The three identified as Kaleem alias ‘Thalla’ son of Meer Sajjauddin, Salim alias ‘Number One’ son of Sadiq Pasha and Azgar alias ‘Bangaloori’ son of Nisar Ahmed all belonging to Ghousianagar here were possessing a kit bag and suitcase. During interrogation they admitted their involvement in a theft case.

They along with ‘Sebu’ Saleem had decamped with a computer from a house near Madina Masjid in Udayagiri. With their arrest, the police have busted three burglary cases, including two in Nazarbad police station and one in Nanjangud police station. In the last case, they had struck a house of Nanjangud Jail Superintendent,
Additional SP P Venkataswamy told media here on Wednesday.

On November 23, Akmal alias ‘Porklain’ was apprehended when he was trying to dispose off a gold ornament at a jewellery shop. During interrogation, Akmal spilled the beans about robbing a woman near Bandipalya three months ago of her ‘mangalsutra’. He along with Manja alias ‘Kappe’ had snatched a chain from a girl while travelling in a KSRTC bus. Incidentally, Manja was arrested by Mandya police recently in a theft case.

A total of 151 grams of gold and computer and peripherals have been seized including both the cases, the officer added.

Cops return empty handed

Tension prevailed for sometime, when a police team from Bangalore arrived at a pawn broker’s shop here on Wednesday to recover theft items.

Jnanabharathi police had recently arrested Nithyananda of Mysore in a theft case. He had disclosed that he had pawned gold valuables weighing 310 grams at a pawn broker’s shop on Ashoka road here. Acting on his statement, a team of four led by Sub-inspector Narasimhaiah arrived at the shop.

However, the pawn broker claimed innocence about the case. But the cops  were not ready to buy his theory. This allegedly led to exchange of words for a while. In no time the pawn brokers in the vicinity joined Mahesh thus triggering tension. Following information Mandi Police led by Inspector Kiran Kumar rushed to the shop. They took both Mahesh and their Bangalore counterparts to jurisdictional Lashkar police station later.

Mahesh reaffirmed his stand at the police station too, forcing the police to return empty handed. 
 
VVWW staffer killed

In a tragic incident a meter reader attached to Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) was killed on the spot when his two-wheeler was hit by a car here on Wednesday.

Lakshman (45) son of late Basappa of Tilak Nagar is the deceased. His moped was hit from the rear near Kalasthavadi by a car belonging to Madikeri. He succumbed to the injuries in no time.

N R Traffic police seized the car and arrested the driver, who was released later.

Multiple charges against Bank Chief

Following a complaint, Lashkar police have booked The Mysore Cooperative Bank Limited President P Nagaraj, also a Congress leader, under several charges. Vedavathi, a teacher residing on Wesley Road had borrowed home loan of ` 15 lakh from the bank. At that time Nagaraj had allegedly borrowed ` 1.30 lakh from Vedavathi promising to return in six months. When he failed to keep up his words, she went to the bank at Gandhi Square on Tuesday. It was at that time Nagaraj allegedly tried to outrage her modesty, besides abusing her, and also issuing a murder threat and attacking her with footwear, it is alleged.
