Trade board to debate exports

The BOT headed by Commerce Minister Anand Sharma will deliberate on sector-specific and country-specific strategies to push forward merchandise export, commerce ministry officials said.

The panel will primarily discuss strategies to boost export focusing on market diversification and identifying new markets for Indian merchandise.

While making an assessment of measures taken in the Annual Supplement 2010-11 to the Foreign Trade Policy 2009-2014 the BOT is expected to discuss ways to leverage free trade agreements (FTAs), which India has entered into or is in the process of signing, for getting larger access for Indian products in global markets, officials said.

Country’s export, which till recently had been reeling under the ripple effect of global slowdown, has started showing improvement in performance.
