NGO claims to rescue ill-treated maid

"We rescued Aruna, a native of Hassan who was working as a live-in maid in the house for the past over one year from there, with the help of the police," Geetha Menon, Convenor of Stree Jagrithi Samithi said.

She alleged Aruna was beaten up, verbally abused and overburdened with work besides not been paid her salary for the past seven months. "After Aruna gave a statement to police that she did not wish to work in the house for the stated reasons, she was rescued from there," Geetha said.

Police said they went with the NGO but the maid did not give any complaint and instead gave a statement that she was unwilling to work in the house.
