Black Sunday: Medico among five killed in mishaps

Incidents occurred in a span 12 hours on different roads

Ruhidheman (23) was killed on the spot, while her friends Ridhima Makshisha, Vikram and Sajith suffered minor injuries.

A native of Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Ruhidheman was a final year student of JSS Dental College here in Bannimantap. Ridhima is her classmate and roommate in the college hostel. Vikram runs an interior designing firm in Vidyaranyapuram, while Sajith is a software engineer, residing at V V Mohalla.

According to V V Puram traffic police, Vikram under the influence of liquor lost control over the steering and veered off the road.

The vehicle came to a grinding halt only after hitting the lamppost in the median. Ruhidheman, who was travelling in the backseat, succumbed to the injuries subsequently.

The remaining three have been admitted at a private hospital for treatment. The high end car belongs to Vikram. A case has been registered against him for rash and negligent driving.

In another incident, that occurred around 10 am, two elderly men were knocked down and run over by a lorry on T Narsipur- Mysore road.

The deceased have been identified as Siddaraju and Madaiah aged about 65 years, hailing from Doddaboohalli, Malvalli taluk in Mandya district. A lorry learnt to be carrying a marriage party hit the two-wheeler of the victims from the rear near Varkod Paper Mill Cross.

Soon after the incident the lorry sped off, only to be waylaid by the villagers of Varkod after chasing the vehicle. However, the lorry driver made good of his escape.
In yet another incident, a man came under a train near Kalamandira. The victim has been identified as D Krishna Reddy (45) son of G Shiva Reddy, a security guard attached to a bank here.

A native of Nandyala, in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, Krishna Reddy had recently joined a security firm and was posted at the bank. His son Vishwanath Reddy is a student of JSS Pharmacy College.

 A pedestrian was also killed when he was hit by a speeding two-wheeler, in another case. Shankar (59) of Gokulam is that unfortunate. He was crossing the road near ESI Hospital on KRS road, when the incident occurred.

Gang of three apprehended

Vijayanagar police have busted a gang of three youth and have recovered articles including four motorcycles worth Rs 2.35 lakh from them.

The accused  have been identified as Subhaan son of Aizaz Pasha, 21 years of Rajivnagar, Mohammed Tausiff son of A Anwar, 21, Mandi Mohalla and Afsar Pasha son of Ismail Pasha, 34 of Kalyangiri.

The trio fell in police net when they were sell a stolen gold chain near Hebbal recently.  Upon interrogation, they revealed that the chain was lifted from a woman in Hootagalli, three days ago.

Police have appealed to those who have lost their vehicles to contact them on 2408137/517 or police control room on 2418339. The police team consisted of Inspector Arun Nagegowda, SI Thimmaraju among others, said a release.
