They raced past disability with sheer enthusiasm

2,000 children participate in 325 different sporting events

Their enthusiasm knew no bounds as they keenly took part in the sporting events. The audience gathered there cheered them to no end boosting their morale.

The meet was organised by the Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens at the Kanteerava Stadium, here on Monday.

As many as 325 different sporting events were organised under various categories. Principal Secretary, Sports Department I R Perumal inaugurated the event.

The participants were divided into five categories based on their disabilities such as orthopaedic, mental, visual, hearing and leprosy cured.

More than 70 organisation from Bangalore urban and rural districts working for disabled children came together to take part in the sports day. Participants from the age group of five to 35 years competed in different sports. 

The special sports day is the first of the event from the string of events planned to celebrate the World Disabled Day which falls on December 3. District Disabled Welfare Officer M G Paly said that though sports day is organised in every organisation involving the students, this event brings together all the people suffering from disabilities under one roof.
“This is an annual event, but we could not conduct it for the past two years.

However, this year we are planning to organise a cultural fest on December 1,” Paly said. The participants were seen enthusiastically taking part in every event and displaying their competitive spirit. “This is a great opportunity to put our sporting abilities to test and also to interact with different people,” said a participant with hearing disabilities.
