Tuffey to return home

Bennett had to return home after injuring in the first Test while Ryder packed his bags after the three-Test series to recover from a groin injury, forcing the New Zealand team management to retain bowling all-rounder James Franklin who had come in for Bennett.

With doubts persisting over Brendon McCullum’s availability for Wednesday’s second one-dayer, Tuffey’s injury comes as the latest blow to an injury-plagued Kiwi side. “Daryl developed some discomfort in his right bicep when playing (the first match) but was able to manage it during the match,” said coach and selector Mark Greatbatch in a press release.

“It (injury) appears to be ok when he bowls, but he’s unable to throw without pain so he will return to New Zealand for further assessment and treatment.”
