ITF tourney from Dec 6

“It has been a very disappointing year for women tennis pros in India as they’ve had no tournaments here to improve their ranking,” said Laxminarayana, secretary of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association.

The KSLTA will host the December 6-11 $25,000 QuestNet ITF Women’s Open at the conclusion of the ITF Mandya Open currently under way.

Britain’s Katie O’Brien, ranked 180 in the world, has been given top billing while Thailand’s Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (200) is seeded second. Defending champion Poojashree is the only Indian to gain direct entry into the main draw.

From the 32 players will slug it out in the qualifiers on Dec 4 and 5, eight will make it to the main draw, where they will be joined by 20 direct entrants and four wild cards.
