Madikeri-Sampaje road work to take off on Dec 20

Rains prevent KRDCL from starting work

As per the initial plan, the development work of 25 kms road from Bhagamandala I cross to Sampaje should have started on Wednesday but since the district received rainfall even on Saturday, it has been planned to start the work on December 20.

According to the agreement Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) should complete the work by 2011. Since the work is expected to take off late, the completion will also be delayed, inform the officials.

Work of Kushalnagar to Madikeri has been completed under I phase of the 60 kms stretch from Kushalnagar to Sampaje, under Mysore-Bantwal highway. Now under II phase Bhagamandala first phase (123 to 148 kms) to Sampaje (25km) work will be taken up. Kushalnagar to Sampaje work cost Rs 101 crore.

Equipment and  workers have already been arranged for the work,” says KRDCL Engineer Venkatesh speaking to Deccan Herald.

“Kushalnagar-Madikeri road has been completed by us on time but since there was delay in supply of bitumen from Mangalore, the work suffered a bit. We will strive to complete the Madikeri-Sampaje road on time countering all obstacles,” he said.

RMR Company, which has got the contract for the work is confident of starting the work on December 20.

Company Engineer Shivaprakash said that the works could have been started in October itself if the rains had not lashed. “Despite the rains we have started the culvert works. The works are going on in Kushalnagar town as well,” he said.

Once the proposed road work is completed, the road development work in the city will be taken up by KRDCL.

On the backdrop of road work, vehicle movement  will be banned on Madikeri-Mangalore road till April end and District Administration is looking at alternate route.
