Expulsion ghost haunts district Congress again

While it was in 2009 when everyone spoke about Srinivas Gowda’s ouster from party, this time, it is learnt that a letter in this regard has been written to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara. Sources said All India Congress Committee Treasurer Motilal Vohra has written to KPCC president.

Strangely, the letter has not yet reached the man in question - Srinivas Gowda, yet. “It could be an extended version of last year’s rumour,” said a party leader.

Some of his supporters are asking him to come out of the party before being asked by the party. However, Srinivas wants to wait and watch, say party insiders. But, the rumour has brought cheers in Minister K H Muniyappa’s camp, who is a known opponent of Srinivas.

Although reports about his expulsion have discouraged Srinivas Gowda, he is not ready to accept defeat. He has been fighting for survival in the party for the past six years and it will continue, he had said.

At this juncture, many of his supporters are suggesting him to join Janata Dal. In fact, Srinivas Gowda was in Janata Dal before embracing  Congress.

Even in BJP, he cannot contest against Varthur Prakash, who defeated Gowda in 2009 Assembly elections.  With zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections on cards, the party wants to tread very carefully, for both the leaders have a huge following.

Considering all this, it is testing time for the Congress in view of local body elections.

‘I’m not aware of expulsion’

“I’m still a Congress leader as I have not received any letter from the party high command of my expulsion from the party,” said former minister K Srinivas Gowda.
He was addressing mediapersons at his residence after arriving from Bangalore on Tuesday. He also offered puja at Anjaneya temple in Kondarajanahalli at Kolar.

He further said that the rumours about his six-year expulsion from the party are just ‘rumours’, for he has not been informed about it by the party. “I cannot confirm anything at this juncture. In 2009 too such rumours had disturbed me,” he added.

Since 1986, except for only one place, the party has not been defeated in the local body elections. “I would wait for the party high command’s letter,” he said.

In view of the confusion, a protest organised in the city on December 4 has been postponed.  In the meantime, some of the supporters urged him to join JD(S).
