Arkavathy Layout: Meeting with farmers soon

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha working president Kodihalli Chandrashekhar said here on Tuesday that the Chief Minister has promised to keep the land acquisition in abeyance till a resolution of the issue with farmers.

Farmers are up in arms against the proposal of the Bangalore Development Authority to acquire their land for the layout. Chandrashekar said the government has promised to hold a separate meeting with farmers on land acquisition by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board across the State.

He said the chief minister has promised to look into the demand for hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy, ragi, cotton and other crops. The farmers will resort to statewide agitation if the government failed to fix the MSP before December 9, he warned.
