JOIN USShukre, who was driving a Honda City, rammed the car into a scooter last night at suburban Santacruz, seriously injuring the rider Tohil Khan (19) and his brother Taufiq Khan (14), they said.
According to the police, Shukre and a few of her friends, including Sawant, were racing with each other when Shukre lost control of her vehicle and hit the scooter.
"Locals who had witnessed the entire accident immediately gathered at the spot and assaulted Sawant who was trying to appease the crowd," a police official said.
Police immediately arrived on the spot and took the singing duo to the Santacruz police station.
Shukre was arrested and booked for rash and negligent driving and was released on bail on a bond of Rs 3000 from the police station in the wee hours today.
Both Tohil and Taufiq were rushed to nearby Nanavati hospital and have suffered fractures in their hands and legs and injuries on their head, police said.
