They were racing with each other when Prajakta, who was driving a Honda City with three others, rammed her vehicle into a scooter at Daulat Nagar, seriously injuring Toufiq Khan (19) and Tauhid Khan (14).
People thrashed Sawant when he was trying to pacify the crowd. However, according to one witness, Sawant picked up a fight with the locals, telling them who he was and boasting his contacts with higher-ups. He alleged that Sawant and Prajakta were in an inebriated condition.
The police sent Sawant and Prajakta for an alcohol test at Bhabha Hospital. Prajakta was later arrested and released on Wednesday.
