The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) said the pulse rate of STD calls has been increased from one minute to three minutes from December 1. This facility will be available from calls mades from BSNL landlines or WLL connections to any other landline numbers across the country.

Customers will now be able to talk for three minutes in one call unit charge, which varies from 80 paise to Rs.1.20 depending upon the tariff plan. With this. long distance calls from BSNL fixed lines to any fixed line customers have now become cheaper than those of mobile  phones.

Till now it was only in local calls that the pulse rate was of three-minute duration but this will now be extended to all landline connections across India, thus giving people the facility to talk more without paying more, said the company. But the new rate will not be applicable to PCOs and for calls to special services. At present, BSNL’s local call rate is 80 paise for 3 minutes up to 300 calls after which it goes up to Re 1 up to a maximum of Rs 1.20.
