Now, UNICEF has come out with a unique plan ‘Meena’ to curb school dropouts, which enables the children, especially girls to continue their education.

The team comprises 15 girls and five boys and a teacher would be given the responsibility of monitoring the situation.

The scheme which was implemented in only 62 blocks in the whole state, has now been extended to all the schools in the district with the main objective of developing self confidence among the girls.

The girls are still subjected to various social curses like dowry harassment, gender disparity,  minor marriages and child labour.

Awareness

Team ‘Meena’ will involve in creating an awareness among the girls against these social problems.

Girls also drop out due to family problems and poverty, which paves way to child labour. The onus of creating awareness among the students lie on the teachers.

The facts and figures would be recorded in ‘Meena diary’ and it is the responsibility of the team to find solution to the problems faced by the locals.

Meena team has been formed in all the 70 clusters in the district consisting of students from 6th, 7th and 8th standards.

A fund of Rs 9,000 would be provided annually and would be distributed among the clusters.

A government circular on the same has been sent already to all the cluster chiefs and a meeting was also held. The teachers would be imparted suitable training by the department of educatio to implement the ‘Meena’ programme.

The teachers would also make a door-to-door visit, officials said.
