JOIN US“There are several laws which protect the rights of women in India. Accordingly, women workers should not be forced to work for more than 48 hours a week,” said judge S Shridhar.
Addressing at a legal awareness camp organised by the taluk Legal Services Authority and Bar Association as part of the Labourers’ Week programme at N R Pura Court premises on Wednesday, he said that pregnant women should not be given tough jobs at a working place.
Similarly, mothers of newborn babies should be allowed to feed their babies atleast twice a day, he added. An employer is also bound to pay additional remuneration to employee, if the later works for more than prescribed hours in a day, Shridhar said.
Further talking about anti-child labour laws, he said that employing children below 14 years is a punishable offence. Similarly, Children above 14 years should not be forced to work for more than six hours a day, he added.
Bar Association president E C Joy said that courts and Legal Service Authority create legal awareness among people to reduce the number of crimes. Advocates Chandrashekhar and H A Saju were present.
