Briefing media persons after inaugurating a minor bridge at Mudungarukatte in Bantwal taluk on Thursday, Minister for Public Works Department C M Udasi said that the heavy rainfall, which lashed across the State due to the impact of global warming, has spoilt most of the rural roads. “We will take measures to repair all roads soon,” he added.

Talking about the development of road on Shiradi ghat, Udasi said that the road concreting project has not been approved by the Central government.

“We had plans to concrete the Shiradi ghat road before December. I had gone to New Delhi four times, but the proposal has not been approved. I will meet Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways Kamalnath again and the works will be started immediately after the Centre’s approval,” he added.

A total of Rs 100 crore has been reserved for the development of Agumbe ghat road, he said adding that all obstacles will be cleared on the stretch and it will be made motorable soon. Further, talking about the proposal of four-laning of Hassan - B C Road stretch, Udasi said that it will be done on priority. Similarly, he promised, the Mane - Ullal road will also be made four-lane soon.

To a query on schedule of rates for the contracts, which was made uniform in the State recently, he said that earlier rates were more for Dakshina Kannada. However, it has been made uniform throughout the State and now it is not possible to reduce the schedule of rates for other districts.
