The school has been locked for the last one week, but the officials of the Education Department did not respond to the demand of the students and villagers. Villagers asserted that their protest will be continued till the department take initiatives to appoint teachers for the school.

The school has a total of 24 students and two sanctioned posts of teacher including headmaster. While the headmaster went on leave for more than a week, another teacher did not report at all. As a result, students are in a fix, villagers said.

Block Education Officer S G Nagesh said that he will take necessary steps to appoint teachers to the school at the earliest.

‘Indefinite protest’

Labour leader George Austin urged the department officials not to spoil the future of children belong to poor families.

“School will have to be opened in the BEO’s office, if teachers were not appointed,” he warned. School Development and Monitoring Committee President Muthaiah said that students in the school are deprived of their right to education.

“Officials did not respond even after the issue was raised in the Janaspandana meet,” he added.
