Rains destroy tomato crop

Last Updated 02 December 2010, 17:39 IST

Tomato growers who were waiting to harvest the standing crops have now been left in lurch.

The compensation promised by the government has not even reached them.

Dried or destroyed tomato crops are a common sight in the taluk.

The farmers would have spent Rs 25,000 minimum per acre to grow tomato apart from fertiliser and equipment. But this year, the farmers will not get anything in return.
