Now, bullock cart with iron wheels!

A farmer in Varakatte village here has succeeded in the experiment of replacing wooden wheels to iron wheels in bullock cart thereby reducing its cost of production. Till recently, farmers were using wooden wheels strapped with iron plates in their bullock carts.

However, farmer Kamti Annegowda of Varakatte village in the taluk has the distinction of using iron wheels in bullock carts.

When the rate of wooden wheels was skyrocketing, farmers started using rubber tyres.

However, farmers were facing technical problems in rubber tyres too. Finally, Annegowda found iron wheel suitable and economical for bullockcarts.

Annegowda told Deccan    Herald that iron wheels are stronger than wooden wheels. It can pull more loads compared to wooden wheels. The cart which can be assembled at a cost of around Rs 12,000 will last for more than 10 years, he said.

It requires more than 8 feet of wood worth Rs 30,000 to manufacture a pair of wooden wheels.

Moreover, transportation during rainy season too was difficult in bullock cart of wooden wheels, he pointed out.
