The first thing one would notice about Jackie Shroff is his simplicity.

His amicable and down-to-earth nature is extremely obvious when he interacts with people. In the City recently for an art exhibition, Jackie had a friendly chat with Metrolife.

He spoke at length on Bangalore, his upcoming projects and his experiences working with new directors.

“I have been coming to Bangalore for the past 20 years and I used to meet Sanjay Khan here often. Although the green cover has reduced to an extent, the City has a charm which has not faded. The existing trees are still beautiful and except for its pollution and traffic, Bangalore is an amazing City,” he says.

He is currently working in a Telugu film, titled Shakti, in which he plays a villain.

“I play the bad guy in this movie but it’s too early to speak about it now. All I can say is it was fun shooting for it with the crew and the director Meher Ramesh. We just completed a shooting schedule in Egypt and we will be shooting in Hampi, Badami and Abu Dhabi in the days to come.”

He will also be seen in a Tamil movie, Aranya Kandam, directed by Thyagarajan Kumararaja.

“I play a don in this film. It was wonderful working with Kumar. He has been a fantastic director. The film has already won the Grand Jury Award in the South Asian International Film Festival, New York and that’s a good start,” he says.

Ask him if he has got any offers from Sandalwood and he says, “After C/o Footpath (Care Of Footpath), I haven’t got any offers from Sandalwood. Working with the little boy Kishan was one of the best experiences of my life as he is simply brilliant. I would love to work in more Kannada films but I can only do two projects a year. What to do? Time illa,” he jokes.

So what’s his dream role? He answers, “I would love to play the role of Tansen. He had such a powerful voice that he could light up a diya with his singing.

His voice had a great impact on people and I wish I could play his role someday.”
He has also been shooting for a Bollywood film.

“I’m acting in a movie called Interview, directed by Laurns Postma, where I play the role of a war correspondent. The character hates interviewing actors as he feels anyone can do it. But he is compelled to do so owing to work pressure.”

On keeping up with the latest trends in fashion, Jackie says he believes in plain and simple living.

“Simplicity is the best form of beauty. I don’t want to create a fashion statement. I just wear anything that is comfortable and simple. What is the point of wearing something, that’s in fashion, when you are not comfortable with it?” he says.

Jackie’s mantra for a happy life is to be at peace with oneself.

“This year has been very fulfilling and peaceful for me. I hope the coming year would be the same as well. But I plan to work out extra next year to be more fit and fine,” he signs off.
