Speaking at a media conference in the city on Friday, Siddaraju said that 18 teachers have been appointed under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan to train specially-abled children at nine education blocks of cluster-level government schools.

Abuses

He said that when two teachers Saritha and Manjula went to report to duty at Government schools at Kukkarahalli and Pailwan Basavaiah Nagar, they were verbally abused by the headmasters Lokesh and Ramesh.

Furthermore, he alleged of discriminating behaviour towards the specially abled.
When a formal complaint was filed with the BEO South Raghunandan, Siddaraju alleged that the former has taken no action in this regard. He urged the district administration and education department to take stern measures against the BEO and headmasters.

He also said that teachers appointed to train specially abled children in mainstream schools are being assigned the work of attendants.

Furthermore, Siddaraju urged for the need to improve awareness among teachers and headmasters about the needs of the specially abled. Also he demanded that an action plan be made for the specially abled. He bemoaned that on World Disabled Day, the government has failed to recognise specially abled persons with extraordinary abilities. He said that rights of special children should not be violated.
