Rain loss: 'Farmers may get 60 pc compensation'

Chairing a KDP meet at the Kote Hale Vidhana Sabhangana here, he said that the government distributes compensation of Rs two lakh to the kin of those who are killed due to rogue elephant menace.

“The government has plans to increase the compensation amount. The government will also think of providing free treatment and hospital bills to those who are injured in the elephant attacks,” he added.

All ration shops should compulsorily display the rates of commodities, which is being sold through public distribution system, the Minister directed adding that it should be implemented within a week.

“I will conduct surprise raids to ration shops. Action will be taken against officers concerned, if price lists were not found in ration shops,” he warned.

Vijayashankar directed the PWD officials to vacate the encroachments on both sides of the roads. “Special emphasis should be given to maintain the drainages. The Executive Engineer will be held responsible if development works are sub-standard,” he warned.

Zilla Panchayat Vice President Anitha Kanjithanda alleged that the road between Kutta and Tholpatti is of sub-standard. “The asphalted road has been damaged within two months,” she added.

Responding to the allegation, the Minister directed PWD Executive Engineer Ravikumar to inspect the spot and submit a report. “The contractor, who carried out the work, will be blacklisted if work was sub-standard. Action will be taken against the officer, if any official lapse was found in the work,” he added. MLA M P Appachu Ranjan directed that notices should be served to those who encroached the drainages in the town.
