Parthisubba award for Someshwar, Hosthota

Addressing reporters, Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy Chairman Kumble Sundar Rao said that Kumble is the birth place of Parthisubba who is considered as the doyen of yakshagana. He had composed a number of yakshagana prasangas. The award presentation ceremony will begin with a talamaddale on “Chudamani” at 2 pm. It will be followed by the award presentation ceremony.

Artistes of Yakshagana Kendra, Udupi, will stage Yakshagana “Panchavati” in Badaguthittu style. It will be followed by another yakshagana “Yajna Samrakshane,” in Tenkuthittu style by the selected artistes. All the three prasangas have been written by late Parthisubba.

Hosthota Manjunatha Bhagawathar (72), who studied up to fourth standard has composed 21 prasangas on Ramayana, 28 prasangas on Sri Krishna, 52 prasangas on Mahabharata.

He has written other prasangas based on the Puranas. In fact, he had taught yakshagana to the visually impaired children at Sharadadevi Andhara Vikasa Kendra in Shimoga. He opened yakshagana training centres in 60 places.

The 75-year-old Prof Amrut Someshwar has composed more than 20 prasangas. He has written other books in Kannada and Tulu. He has studied the “chandassu” of yakshagana.
