Azam Khan rejoins SP

Azam went to SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's resident and later reached reached the party office with Yadav to attend the meeting called to discuss party's strategy for the 2012 Assembly polls.

All the MPs, MLAs and executive members of district and state units have been invited to attend the meeting and SP chief is expected to address it later in the day.
Khan, party sources said, has been offered the post of leader of opposition in the state Assembly presently held by Mulayam's brother Shiv Pal Singh Yadav.

Party feels that Khan would brighten party's prospect in the coming 2012 polls as he has good say among the Muslim community.

At the meeting Shivpal Singh Yadav announced to resign from the post of Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly and offered the same to Azam Khan.Azam was expelled from the SP after 2009 Lok Sabha polls for his involvement in anti-party activities and opposing the candidature of Jaya Prada from Rampur.

Khan was also opposed to joining hands with former BJP leader Kalyan Singh during the polls in which SP's Muslim vote bank had got a dent.Later, party chief Yadav parted ways with Kalyan and also Khan's betenoire Amar Singh paving way for his re-entry in the party.
