Mangalore South MLA N Yogish Bhat said at a Janaspandana meet held at the Town Hall here on Saturday that the government has already sanctioned two centres for the taluk. The centres will be made functional once procedures are completed, he added.

Bhat further said that the government also has plans to open five hobli-level citizen service centres in the taluk. Officials were asked to identify suitable place in the taluk, he said adding that the centre will help villagers to forward their official files to various offices.

Meeting with Railways

Citizens brought to the notice of the MLA that several development works in the City, including railway overbridge, underbridge and UGD, have been stalled due to the apathy of the Railways.

They said that the railway authorities do not respond to the demands of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). The Palghat division of the Railways did not give its nod for the construction of UGD at Attavar. A meeting should be convened to discuss the issue with the railway officials, he said adding that he will ask MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to take initiatives in this regard.

Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike President Hanumanth Kamath said that the MCC has handed over the contract to Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF) for technical advise, to conduct surveys and to prepare scientific plans. However, the contract has not been renewed even after 10 years, he said and pointed out that as per government order, contracts should not be extended for an agency for more than two-and-a-half years.

MCC Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash said that the issue will be verified and a decision will be taken later.

Talking about the bad roads at Bikkarnakatte, Vijayaprakash said that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been requested to repair the road. Initiatives will be taken to make the road motorable, he added.

Toy train

Seva Dal worker Ashraf said that the toy train, which was provided at the Kadri Park in City is not functioning for the past several months. He said that the train was running properly between 2003 and 2007. However, the train came to a halt, after it was handed over to the Women and Child Welfare Department.

The Commissioner said that the matter was already discussed with the Balabhavan President Sulochana Bhat. Maintenance works will be carried out and the train will be made functional soon, he added.
