14 die in Bidar accident

All the dead belong to Takulgaon village of Latur district in Maharashtra. They were returning to their village after visiting Tirupati.

The accident occurred when the driver of the jeep in which the victims of the accident were travelling tried to overtake a lorry moving ahead of the jeep.

Head-on collision

The vehicle collided head-on with a Hyderabad-bound bus of North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation. The Hallikhed (B) police have registered a case.

The deceased were identified as Vijaymala Mehta (40), Anil Mehta (27), Tiruvanbai Mehta (35), Shobhabai Mehta (32), Sudhakar Jogdhand (36), Savitribai Jogdhand (60), Akash (18 months), Shubham (13), Keshobha (40), Sonabai (40), Dayanand Naikode (26), Nainabai (55) and Chaaya (35). The driver, Thakur (30) also died on the spot.

In all, there were 22 passengers in the jeep when the accident took place. The injured were rushed to Humnabad taluk general hospital. The condition of the three injured passengers was said to be serious, police sources said. Senior police officers visited the accident spot.
