Cycle rally thrills Mangaloreans

The rally was inaugurated by Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh at 6.30 am. More than 1,100 participants aged between 7 and 80 years took part in the 17 km rally.  The rally passed through Kottara, Kuloor, Tannirbavi, Bengre, ferried across the river to Old Port and reached Gandhi Nagar School via lower Car Street, covering a distance of 17 kms.

The event was aimed at popularising cycling as an expression of concern to conserve fuel and to develop traffic sense, riding habits and develop love for outdoor activities in young minds. The rally was also intended to impress the district administration and city planners to safeguard cyclists’ interests. Arrangements on the supply of water points, fruits point, ferry, cycle rescue van, ambulance, doctors and first aid team were made for the participants.

The rally passed through Ladyhill - Bengre – Car Street giving an unique experience of crossing Gurupur river on a barge with the cycles.
