A commercial building, situated in front of the City Municipal Council , was demolished in the wee hours on Sunday.
The commercial building had been built illegally by encroaching upon the government land. The encroachment was cleared amid tight police protection.
Meanwhile, the administration, which had launched the operation against illegal places of worship, will be temporarily stopped .
The drive was abruptly suspended till Tuesday as the officials are in confusion over ownership of the land.
The district administration has identified 21 places of worship as ‘illegal’ which would be removed soon.
Sources said that the Tahasildar’s office has convened a meeting on December 6 to verify the documents to examine the ownership of the said properties. The demolition drive to clear the public spaces from encroachments is likely to resume on Tuesday, the source added.
