A senior official at the Bangladesh shipping department told Xinhua by phone that the pirates have captured the ship after a long chase.
"The ship, Jahan Moni, was bound for the Suez port from Singapore," director general of shipping directorate Rear Admiral Bazlur Rahman said, adding that they have lost all contact with the ship carrying 25 Bangladeshi sailors.
The authorities in Bangladesh have informed all international organizations about the latest position of the ship and they are monitoring the movement of the ship, he said.
Rahman said they have also informed the Indian Coast Guard.
