Street lights glow during daytime here

Last Updated 06 December 2010, 16:28 IST

It is the duty of the City Municipal Council to extend basic amenities to its denizens for their safety and security. But, the streetlights are not at all working in many areas which reflects the apathy of the authorities concerned. While the whole state is facing severe power crisis, the staff here are not at all bothered in discharging their duty.

The streetlights in some areas glow throughout the day whereas defunct tubelights are not replaced regularly resulting in total darkness .There are around 2,000 streetlights in the city which include three high mast lamps, 1,565 tubelights and 556 sodium vapour lights. The Forest Department has put lights all along Satyamangala Road up to Somwarpet but many of them are not working. This is causing hardship for the drivers especially during night.

Worst are the streetlights from Pachchappa Circle to Ramasamudra Double Road which are defunct always. The cracked electric poles are not replaced by the Cesc authorities and the dangling wires are posing danger for the citizens. There is no maintenance of streetlight and changing of defunct bulbs is not at all done by the authorities concerned. Recently, a vehicle hit an electric pole on Ramasamudra Road because of which the entire area was plunged into darkness for three days. Even the elected representatives are not instructing the department concerned to maintain streetlights in the city.
