Rare honour for Bangalore cartoonist

‘Black Ducks,’ by Bangalore-based artist Panduranga Rao was showcased at the 12th Porto International Cartoon Contest and World Festival held recently at Portugal.

The only cartoon to make it from India, Black Ducks portrays five white ducks which become black after taking bath in a polluted river. Rao had submitted his cartoon in the free section of the contest.

Over 700 cartoonists from 72 countries submitted 2000 cartoons for the contest and Rao’s cartoon was the only one selected from the country. It was also printed in the cartoon catalogue brought out by the organisers.

So far, Rao’s cartoons have been exhibited/printed in international cartoon albums 29 times brought out by different countries of the world.

The artist has also won many accolades including entries in Limca Book of Records and India Book of Records for conducting exhibitions 33 times.
