The village inhabited by dalits has least features of a human settlement. Though most of the elected representatives and leaders harp about the lack of hygiene practice among the poor people to be the reason for their low standard of living, they done little to improve the basic amenities in village rural areas.

Devenahalli in Kambiganahalli Gram Panchayat has been pushed to oblivion thanks to the apathy and lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned.

The residents are on the verge of leading a agitation as there are no proper roads, drains, power supply and other facilities.

Open troubles

The village has about 30 households. A cistern constructed to meet the drinking water needs is left open. As a result the waste that falls into the cistern has polluted the water in turn affecting the health of the people.

The village lacks tarred road and movement of people is adversely affected during rainy season when the roads turn muddy.

The lack of proper drains only adds to the woes. Though there are some street lights in the village lack of regular power supply has plunged the village into darkness.

Unutilised funds

The residents alleged that though funds were provided to the Gram Panchayats under MGNREGs, the same was not being used for development of villages and in particular to those villages inhabited by dalits.

They added that elected representatives who toured the villages during election and promised to provide the basic amenities have not bothered to keep their promise after the election.

Dalit leader Devenahalli Muniraju has threatened to boycott the fast approaching Taluk and Zilla Panchayat elections and to stage dharna in front of the offices concerned if basic amenities were not provided.
