Delivering the convocation address at the 10th convocation ceremony of Manipal University here at KMC Greens on Wednesday, she said “Our scientists and researchers must bring in a revolution for enhancing productivity.” The President also emphasised that universities must have outreach programmes that enable students to interact with local communities and understand their issues. Those who are educated must work for the upliftment of the disadvantaged sections of the society as part of their national responsibility. Besides, they can also undertake social welfare work, help the poor as well as the needy and become messengers of change.

This requires a spirit of social service to reach out and connect India physically, technologically and emotionally, she added.

Terming that universities should be symbols of learning, humanism and tolerance, President Pratiba called to say no to ragging. There must be a campaign to sensitise students on ill-effects of drug consumption, she urged.

The President conferred as many as 28 PhD awards and 13 gold medals on the students on the occasion.
