Last Updated 08 December 2010, 17:04 IST

A mix of SSLC, PU and degree students had appeared for the placement drive conducted on December 6 and 7. Out of the 1,064 applicants, who registered for the drive, 833 were shortlisted and 720 candidates got their offer letters on the spot. IT and telemarketing companies were some of the largest recruiters this time. The highest salary offered at the session was Rs 12,000 a month and the lowest was Rs 4,750.

Sreenivas Murthy, a resident of Magadi in Ramanagar district, was delighted to be hired as a customer service executive by a Bangalore-based MNC. This BA graduate was previously working with an NGO.

Nearly 24 companies participated in the third placement drive organised jointly by Centralised Placement Cell, Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation and Karnataka Examinations Authority. Representatives of various companies were impressed with the willingness of the candidates who took up the job offers immediately.

Several youngsters, such as Shashikumar, were thrilled to grab a job which offered them a comparatively higher package than what their previous jobs were offering them. “I would be earning nearly Rs 7,000 per month. This session is helpful for candidates like us who do not want to approach any consulting agency,” said the 21-year-old who was earning Rs 2,500 at a computer centre in Kolar.

The organisers also noted that the process of selecting candidates for the remaining open positions with the employers will also be taken up by CPC. Interested candidates may register with CPC by calling 080-23441212 /23441717 or by logging on to www.jobraiser.com.

The Central Placement Cell is a joint initiative of KEA and  KVSTDC to assist job seekers across the State. The fact that more than 67 per cent of the registered applicants got jobs at the first-ever session for non- technical students has boosted the confidence of the six-month- old CPC.
