The crop stands unique among its counterparts, for it produces eatable rice with a less time without boiling.

Gopalkrishna tried his hand in producing the crop after reading an article on Assam’s paddy variety in one of the newspapers in the year 2007. After continuous efforts for two years, Gopalkrishna was able to obtain 2 kg grain from Yalagan village of Nagaon district in Assam.

He paved way for the experiment by sowing paddy seeds in 1 gunte of his irrigation land and after the prolonged effort, the crop is now ready for harvesting. Speaking about the paddy grown in his field, Gopalkrishna opines that the Assam variety of paddy is quite useful when there is no time for one to cook rice. This variety of crop can be grown commercially, he says but regrets that the Agriculture department and Research Centre did not provide him necessary inputs when he contacted them for gaining information.

Despite the little disappointment, he is proud of introducing the new variety of crop for the first time in the taluk. He informed that the rice can be cooked by soaking the grain in cold water for half an hour or in hot water for 15 minutes.Interested can contact Gopalkrishna at 9482129567.
