Folk artistes at their best

Shows included a Kudmi folk dance, a Goan folk dance by Goan troupe, Gumat dance by Kharvis from Bhatkal, traditional dance by Daldi Muslims of Shiroor, a Siddi dance by Siddis of Uttara Kannada, a baila show by Naach Sobhann group in Mangalore, Mando by Goan troupe, yakshagana by Surathkal group and duff dance by Beary Academy.

Prez speaks Konkani

Though President spoke in English, she concluded her speech in Konkani. When she said “Tumkan sarv konkani lokak muje ullas ani shubashay” (My wishes to all Konkani people), she received a big round of applause from the crowd.

Beetle leaves, arecanut, water

The President was given a traditional welcome with ‘paanpod ani udaak’ (beetle leaves, arecanut and water) by Maandd Sobhann President Louis J Pinto, upon her arrival. She was also presented a traditional Konkani saree and jasmine flowers, the speality of this region.

Choir, band

The Mandd Sobhann choir sang the title song of the convention (penned by Titus Noronha, composed Eric Ozario and directed by Joel Pereira) while Mother Theresa band from Honnavar gave a glimpse of Konkani music.
