Major burglary sends joint family into tizzy

Keerthi Kumar a building contractor and resident of fifth cross, Anikethana Road in Kuvempunagar had been to Palahalli Maramma temple on the outskirts for ‘Nagarapanchami’ along with his and his sibilings Puttaraju and Shivanna’s family members.

They returned around 3.30 pm only to find it difficult to open the door, despite of inserting the key.

Suspecting that the vertical latch may be pulled, Keerthikumar’s brother Puttaraju went behind the house. What caught his attention was the garage door that was left ajar.

More shock was in store for him, as the door leading to the passage and also backdoor were open.

The cash kept in the almirah, and one kg each of gold and silver items were found missing.

Keerthikumar had kept the money for his ongoing works at Janatha Nagar and Kalidasa Road, said a relative.

The needle of suspicion is on a lady named Kusuma who was the home tutor of five kids.

She had remained absent for a fortnight. It was only in the morning, one of the occupants told her over phone to come in the evening, saying they will be not at home afternoon.According to the police there are chances of using duplicate keys as there is no sign of forcible entry. The joint family consists of nearly 15 people that includes Keerthi Kumar’s age-old mother and also sister.

DCP (Crime and traffic) P Rajendra Prasad, ACP ( K R Sub-division) N Vishnuvardhan, Inspectors D Dhananjaya and Jayakumar (CCB) visited the spot. Kuvempunagar police have registered a case.

Man succumbs

A man, who had attempted suicide near Law Court’s complex here by consuming poison, has succumbed on Saturday.

Sources at Lakshmipuram police station said B Prakash of J P Nagar was accused of harassing his wife Shilpa for dowry. The relationship between the couple had soured within three months of the marriage five years ago and she had lodged a complalint against him. Acting on this, he had been arrested and the court had  remanded him in judicial custody. In the later days, a chargesheet was submitted to a court.

And, the judgment in the case was reserved for November 29. Anticipating that the court may ask him to give alimony to his wife, Prakash on the pretext of pee, went aside and consumed poison. Learning about this, his friend who was also at the court at that time, had rushed him to a hospital. A case has been registered.
