JOIN USHiluf clocked two hours 26 minutes and 40 seconds to finish first in the 42 km distance race ahead of Abet, who came second in 2.27.22. India’s Bhaskar Kamble put up a good fight but was narrowly pushed to third place. Kamble timed 2.27.57.
Hiluf took home Rs 50,000 while Abet and Kamble got Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. However, Indian women had a lot to cheer in the full marathon with Meher D'Mello clinching the crown in four hours 20 minutes and 44 seconds. Meher’s compatriots Amrita Mitra Basu finished second, clocking 4::31:25 and Thara Tapa came in third at 4::42:32.
In the men’s half marathon (21 kms), Mifta Bedea of Ethiopia came first. India’s Govardhan Lal Malik finished second and Ethiopian Demka ended third. There was also a surprise winner in the 5km IT City Fun Run with the 14-year-old Druva Jordan, a ninth standard student of Lake Monfort School, winning the crown. Venkatesh came in second place, followed by Bharath in third.
