On Tuesday, after repeated notices issued to the owners of the petrol bunk yielded no results, the Palike also seized the land on which the bunk had come up.

The petrol bunk was associated with the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The owners had taken the land on a 10-year lease from 1997 to 2007 for Rs 10.40 lakh per year. It is stated that the owners of the petrol bunk had not renewed their lease nor did they pay the lease sum for the three years after the lease expired. The land, measuring a total of 125X96 ft, is valued at Rs 12-15 crore. The BBMP demolished a few small structures of the bunk and have already fenced the land to avoid any further encroachment.
