Ex-CJI didn't mention Raja's name: Moily

Last Updated 16 December 2010, 18:28 IST

Dragged into the controversy by Justice Balakrishnan, who on Wednesday said he had informed Moily about the incident in which Raja allegedly tried to influence Justice Reghupathy, the minister said: “I wrote to the then Chief Justice of India, Justice Balakrishnan. He wrote back...the name of any minister did not figure in it. That is all. There is no controversy at all”.

Moily was referring to the correspondence between him and Justice Balakrishnan after a group of MPs had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh alleging Raja had attempted to influence the judge to get bail for his family friends.
“On receipt of the memorandum file (by MPs of various parties against A Raja) the reference was made to us and we wrote to the then Chief Justice of India. No minister’s name was mentioned,” Moily said.

Moily welcomed the Supreme Court decision to monitor the probe into the controversial 2G spectrum allocation and said the government has nothing to hide. “This is what our government had said (in the Supreme Court)...we have nothing to hide.”
