SI cremated with police honours

SI Monnappa met with the road accident while he was travelling from Madikeri to Kushalnagar in the security vehicle to drop Assembly Speaker K G Boapaih to the Kodagu border safely. Monnappa, when tried to avoid collision with a bike, hit a lorry and sustained severe injuries on his face and head. He lost his life on the spot.

His body was brought to the Police Guest House on Wednesday night. K G Boapaiah, MLA M P Appachu Ranjan and District and Sessions Judge Ashok Nijagannavar among others paid last tributes to the dead personnel.

Later, Monnappa’s body was carried to his native place at Kuttandi village.

DeputySuperintendent of Police Annappa Nayak paid tributes on behalf of the police department, following which the cremation was held.

Among the other three victims of the accident, driver Yogesh and constable Vasant are recovering from the injuries, while another victim Somanna is yet to undergo a surgery.
