JOIN USThe Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalised the candidates for the Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat constituencies.
Releasing the names of the candidates on Thursday, BJP District President Padmanabha Kottari said that candidates for 26 out of 35 ZP wards have been finalised while names of remaining nine candidates are yet to be finalised.
The names of as many as 113 TP candidates have been finalised out of 129 Taluk Panchayat constituencies.
The names of the remaining candidates for both Zilla Panchayat constituencies as well as TP constituencies will be finalised on Friday. Venkat Dambekodi (Guthigaru) and Asha Thimmappa Gowda (Bellare) are the only two sitting members of ZP who have been given ticket from the BJP for this election.
The BJP has issued ticket to Sunitha Sucharitha Shetty, wife of former ZP chief Sucharitha Shetty this time.
Sucharitha Shetty, a JD(S) member had come to power with BJP support during last term. Since his constituency, Puthige has been reserved for General/women, his wife has been fielded by the BJP.
Apart from Meenakshi from Panaje who was elected to the ZP during 1995 and Phakeera who had served as Puttur Taluk Panchayat president, most of the remaining members are new names.
Confident
Kottari expressing confidence of winning 20 to 25 seats out of 35 seats in Zilla Panchayat said that the party has given ticket to dedicated party workers and youth this time.
He further said that he is confident of coming to power in all the five Taluk Panchayats.
CM’s visit
CM B S Yeddyurappa will be visiting the district on Sunday. He will take part in the party workers’ convention where several prominent Congress and JD(S) leaders will join the party. Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, Sadananda Malli and Sucharitha Shetty are likely to join the BJP on the day.
