WELLBEING

QI am 18 years old and I suffer from heavy hair fall. My skin is oily too. How can I control the rate of hair loss?

A

It is perfectly normal to lose 40-50 strands of hair a day. Drink 10-12 glasses of water to keep the internal system healthy and eliminate toxins. Protein intake is necessary, so eat plenty of leafy, green vegetables, fruits and dairy products. You also need vitamins, iron and zinc in your diet. This prevents hair loss and premature greying. Food items like wholegrain flour contain zinc, which improves blood circulation. Healthy blood flow stimulates the follicles and can control hair fall to a large extent.

QI’m 17 years old and I weigh 54 kg. I want to increase my weight. I eat three heavy meals a day. My facial skin is dry, full of break outs, blackheads and dark circles. My water intake is quite low too. Please help.

AFood products like butter, ghee, whole milk and cream should be consumed in limited quantities. Such foods are rich in saturated fat, which can increase the amount of the ‘bad’ cholesterol. If you have noticed that your water intake is low, step it up by drinking at least 7-8 glasses of water every day. Increase your protein intake by eating lentils (dals), sprouts, nuts, seeds (sunflower seeds, almonds), fish and lean meat. Include 1/2 a bowl of thick dal or 1 bowl of thin dal in your daily diet, and 1 slice of fish or lean meat (size and thickness of your palm) to ensure that you get the protein you need. Consuming nutrient-dense food and doing a certain amount of resistance training (30 minutes on alternate days of the week) should help you gain weight. Once you switch to the above-mentioned diet plan, your skin will automatically respond positively and acne and blackheads will reduce. The dark circles are due to the fact that you are not drinking enough water.
