Undabatti tank mishap: Plaint lodged

Last Updated 17 December 2010, 18:17 IST

In his complaint to South Police under whose jurisdiction Undabatti tank is located, on Friday, Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) Convener M Lakshmana has alleged that the maxicab registered way back in 1995 was carrying 38 passengers, violating the norms of 12 plus one, according to the Transport Department.

Hence both the driver and its owner should be booked as prime accused. Police should be treated as second accused, as the cops at the checkpost put up near Bandipalya APMC yard and Kadakola (sub-police station) seems to have failed to enforce the law. Regional Transport Authorities should be considered as third accused for failing to crack the whip against rampant overloading, while Central Transport Department should be considered as fourth and final accused for not sanctioning the amount despite forwarding the estimate for putting up railings on lakes bund in 2007 itself.

Bush clearing

Waking up from its slumber, the district administration has launched works intended to check the recurrence of the incident.

Weeds and bushes on the bund of Dalwoy lake were removed by four labourers, besides painting the stones black and white. Starting from the lake, the works on remaining two water bodies - Shettykere and Undabattikere is expected to be completed in a day or two.

Work of filling the potholes has also begun from Gun House side on the highway. The work is expected to be intensified from December 18.
