The 113-year-old Sanskrit scholar, who was a witness to the Jallianwallah Bagh massacre, also pledged his eyes on the occasion.

Speaking here, he said: “Even though my body is over 100 years old, my mind is still young.”

Dr K Bhujang Shetty of Narayana Nethralaya said anyone could donate their eyes irrespective of their age. “Besides providing sight, the donated eyes can be used for various purposes, including research,” he said.

Parents of the late Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an NSG commando who died during  the terror attack in Mumbai, also pledged their eyes.

“We reiterate our decision to pledge eyes. Our son, Sandeep had pledged not only his eyes, but also all other organs, three years ago. His organs could not be retrieved, because his body was recovered late,” said his father K Unnikrishnan.
