Stop tirade against Sangh Parivar: Yeddyurappa to Congress

Last Updated 20 December 2010, 12:37 IST

The BJP chief minister criticized Congress president Sonia Gandhi for "levelling baseless charges" against him. He also attacked her son and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi for his comments on pro-Hindu organizations.

"Rahul Gandhi is playing with fire by his irresponsible statements on patriotic organizations," Yeddyurappa told reporters here.

"If the Congress continues attacking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other Sangh Parivar organisations, we will launch a country-wide agitation," Yeddyurappa warned.

He said Sonia Gandhi was levelling "false corruption charges against me to cover up the century's biggest corruption case of 2G spectrum allocation".

The chief minister was referring to Gandhi's speech at the Congress plenary Sunday that discretionary powers on land allotment "breed corruption" and urged her partymen to relinquish such powers.

Yeddyurappa is under attack for favouring his kin with prime land in and around Bangalore. He is touring north Karnataka campaigning for the BJP for the Dec 26 and Dec 31 polls to taluq and zilla (district) panchayats (councils).
