There are seven ZP constituencies in Hassan the taluk-Salagame, Dudda, Bhuvanahalli, Shanthigrama, Mosalehosahalli, Kandali and Kattaya. Hullahalli Suresh who had contested on BJP ticket in the previous Assembly polls from Hassan, filed his nomination from Salagame hobli, Devandra, a brother of MLA H S Prakash also filed his nomination as JD(S) candidate, Veerapura Basavaraj of the Congress also entered the poll fray.

APMC president Lakshman filed his nomination as JD (S) from Dudda ZP constituency, while Vokkaligara Sangha Member Vasudeva is contesting on Congress ticket. Former minister Hanumegowada’s supporter Ashok filed his nomination as  BJP candidate ticket from Bhuvanahalli and  Ramachandra is contesting on Congress ticket and Swamigowda from JD(S).

Earlier, hectic political activities and confusion prevailed over the distribution of ‘B’ forms. However, a clear picture emerged only in the afternoon only.

The Congress and BJP candidates filed only one set of nomination paper while JD(S) candidates filed two sets of nomination papers.

Despite rain, the supporters of  the candidates had gathered in large numbers in front of Tahsildar’s office. Police had made elaborate security arrangement near the taluk office as a precautionary measure. Traffic on the busy BM road was thrown out for three to four hours as the supporters and the candidates had blocked the road. This forced the cops to divert the traffic.

As police allowed only proposer and candidates inside the Taluk office, there was no much confusion inside the office at the time of filing nomination papers.  There was an exchange of words between the police and BJP activists over allowing the people inside the taluk office.

This delayed other candidates from filing their nomination papers. A few candidates filed their papers in the last minute.

However, the party candidates began their campaign right form the taluk office after filing nominations.
