The tragic incident came to light when the woman approached the police in the Bhongir town and Nalgonda town last week. Kondaparthi Narasimhachari married the sister of Prema (24, name changed) in 2001. Ever since, Narasimhachari was putting pressure on Prema’s family to give her in marriage to him in the hope of having a male child. Her sister gave birth to two baby girls.

Prema and her family, however, rejected his marriage proposal. She eventually broke the stranglehold by marrying a person from a different caste and moving over to Hyderabad.

Wanting to settle scores with Prema, Narasimhachari hatched a plan. He invited the newly weds to his residence in Nalgonda for a feast and served them fruit juice after the meal.

As the couple experienced vomiting and diarrhoea, Chari took them to a private clinic run by his friend who is a fake doctor, where Prema was injected with the deadly virus.

Prema and her parents discovered the HIV infection during a routine pregnancy check and were horrified by what Chari had done. When they approached Chari with the diagnosis, he silenced them with threats to divorce Prema’s sister and leaving the children.

The issue remained within the family even as Prema delivered a baby boy who was also infected with HIV. Learning this, her in-laws rejected her along with the grandson. Prema returned to Bhongir to live with her parents.

However, she finally sought the assistance of police in Nalgonda and filed a complaint against her brother-in-law and the quack doctor.

Nalgonda DSP said cases have been registered against both the quack doctor and her brother-in-law who were absconding. Police have advised Prema to approach family courts for seeking acceptance in the husband’s family.
