File objections to Jagadish's plea: HC to Lokayukta

Justice A S Pachhapure also directed the Lokayukta to file objections to the petition filed by Katta Jagadish by Thursday.

Jagadish, son of former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, had filed a criminal petition in the High Court seeking quashing of the first information report filed against him by Lokayukta police, for involvement in land scam case and receiving compensation from the KIADB for government land.

In another petition, Muninarayanappa, former Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO) of the KIADB, had challenged the allegations made against him by the Lokayukta police. The Lokayukta had alleged that the petitioner during his tenure as SLAO had disbursed compensation to a person who impersonated the land owner. Instead of awarding compensation to Mary John for acquiring her land near Bandikodigehalli, he had disbursed the same to another person.

In yet another case, Muninarayanappa disbursed compensation to two persons instead of one and the compensation was paid without securing indemnity bonds and sales deed, according to the FIR, costing the State Exchequer Rs 42.86 crore.

Challenging the FIR, the petitioner has said the suo motu case against him by Lokayukta was ultravires as the entire procedure was without jurisdiction and deserved to be quashed. He has also said that the Investigating Officer attached with Lokayukta was not competent to conduct the probe.
